Lake Mills Light & Water will be flushing hydrants beginning April 22nd until approximately May 17th.
The regular flushing of fire hydrants is required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Flushing hydrants often results in discolored or what appears to be dirty water in homes and businesses. This is caused by the disruption of sediment in the water pipes near the hydrant. The water is still safe, but the LML&W recommends running water for a few minutes until water runs clear. This is particularly important for washing machines and dishwashers to avoid staining clothes or dishes.
