Several Lake Mills residents have reported discolored (brown) water recently.  While this is unsightly, the water is safe to use.

One of the most common reasons why water in your home suddenly turns brown is that there has been a disturbance of the minerals or sediment in the water system. Minerals and sediment are naturally occurring in water and in pipes.

The most likely cause of this type of discoloring is disturbance of the underground water system due to several construction projects taking place in Lake Mills at this time.  These projects include both construction near underground water lines and work on the water lines themselves.

Normally, this problem will correct itself within a few hours.  It may require running extra water for a few minutes.

If the decolorization persists for an extended duration, please call Lake Mills Light & Water at 920-648-4026.
